NISER Bhubaneswar, India

After a prolonged struggle, On August 28th 2006, The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, announced the setting up of NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (NISER) at Bhubaneswar. He said that this institute will be at par with the IISERs and when completed will be like today's TIFR and IISc. This blog is a watchdog to make sure that the above indeed happens.

IISER in Pune and Kolkata were called NISER before

The HRD annual report of 2005-06 on higher education(page 238) talks about IISERs in Pune and Kolkata. It says that the SAC-PM initially called them as NISERs.
