Admissions to NISER to commence from July

Admissions to the National Institute of Scientific Education and Research (NISER) would commence from July and it would work temporarily from the premises of the Institute of Physics. In this connection,. Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy Dr A Kakodkar met the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat on Wednesday.

In the first phase 20 students each will be admitted to the four streams. Dr Kakodkar urged the Chief Minister Patnaik to provide land soon for the establishment of the institute. For the time being, students and professors would stay in rented houses, which will be leased for five years. The houses will be provide to the NISER near Sainik School.

As per discussions, a modern campus would be set up spread over 300 acre near Naraj. It would be established either in Ramdaspur or in Chakradharpur near Naraj.

In the first phase, the four streams would include Physical Science, Mathematical Science, Chemical Sciences and Biological Sciences.

In future, streams would be opened up in School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, School of Computing Sciences, School of Engineering Science and other emerging braches.

It would provide an integrated 5-years MSc programme after 10+2 , integrated with Ph.D programme on one hand and employment in various R&D organisations and industry on the other.

At its full strength, NISER will each year have 200 students in the 5-year programme, 150 students in the Ph.D programme and 50 plus in post-doctoral studies. This will be supported by a faculty strength of 300.
